18/09/2025

Only three years since its establishment, the Representative Office of The University of Hong Kong in Vietnam (HKU Vietnam) has been honored with the Excellence Award in the Management of Non-Public Education Institutions by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training (DOET) at the Conference on the Review of the 2024–2025 Academic Year and the Implementation of Directions and Tasks for the 2025–2026 Academic Year for Non-Public Education Institutions in Ho Chi Minh City, held on September 16, 2025.

A Prestigious Recognition from Ho Chi Minh City DOET

The Excellence Award is among the highest forms of recognition granted annually by DOET to non-public institutions that demonstrate:

  • Transparent and effective governance;
  • High quality in training and student services;
  • Tangible contributions to the wider education community.

That HKU Vietnam has been selected for this honor within just three years of operation highlights the office’s strong credibility, quality, and distinctive contributions to Vietnam’s educational landscape.

HKU Vietnam’s Role and Key Contributions

Established in July 2022, HKU Vietnam is the official representative office of The University of Hong Kong (ranked Top 11 globally in QS World University Rankings 2026). Guided by the mission of “Connecting Vietnam”, the office serves as a bridge between HKU and Vietnam’s academic and professional communities.

Over the past three years, HKU Vietnam has:

  • Awarded nearly VND 126 billion in scholarships to Vietnamese students pursuing Bachelor’s, Master’s, and MBA programs at HKU.
  • Organized over 50 academic events and information sessions, engaging thousands of students, parents, and professionals.
  • Partnered with more than 30 high schools and universities across Vietnam to expand access to international education.
  • Advanced research collaboration, hosting international conferences with participation from global scholars and experts.
  • Strengthened social impact, running Vietnam–Hong Kong exchange initiatives to build a multidimensional bridge of culture and knowledge.
Future Outlook: Research, Education, and Social Impact

At the ceremony, Professor Phan Quang Tuan, Chief Representative of HKU Vietnam, remarked:
“This award is a powerful encouragement for us to continue innovating and expanding our partnerships. Moving forward, HKU Vietnam will place strong emphasis on advancing research, hosting more international conferences, and developing short-term programs in Vietnam to provide learners with direct access to HKU’s world-class education. We will also deepen collaboration with leading universities in Vietnam to jointly elevate the quality and diversity of the education ecosystem.”

The Excellence Award is not only a source of pride but also reaffirms HKU’s pioneering role as one of the very few top global universities with a long-term representative office in Vietnam. With a solid foundation of achievements, HKU Vietnam remains committed to empowering Vietnamese youth with access to global knowledge and opportunities for sustainable career development.
